William Arthur Shelton

April 13, 1939 — November 28, 2017

William Arthur Shelton, 78 of Lake Charles, LA went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Arthur, as he was known by his friends, was born on April 13, 1939 in Lake Charles to Harold and Lillie Shelton.

 

Arthur graduated from W.O. Boston High School and then attended Tennessee State University. Arthur served in the United States Army and toured with a singing group, fulfilling his passion for singing. After leaving the Army, Arthur met and married the love of his life, Ruth Sonnier Shelton. He loved to bowl and traveled around the country with Ruth to compete in various tournaments. Arthur retired from Citgo Refinery after serving many years as a security guard. He was as outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and spending time outside. One of his prize possessions was his Mustang. Arthur was a people person, enjoying being with and helping others.

 

Mr. Shelton is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, George and Robert Shelton.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of over 50 years, Ruth Sonnier Shelton, his sisters, Pat and Jackie Shelton and his brothers Dr. Harold T. (Henrietta) Shelton and Mike (Elizabeth) Shelton. He also leaves two sons, Bryon Keith Shelton and Russell Scott Shelton. Those who will especially miss him are his grandchildren, Brandon, Grayson and Miles Arthur Shelton.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 11AM-2PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home at 2PM officiated by Rev. Alvin Brass. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
