William Raymond Chavanne

May 9, 1960 — Jul 10, 2026

William "Will" Chavanne, 66, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on May 9, 1960, in Lake Charles, Will was a lifelong resident and was a graduate of St. Louis High School, Class of 1978, he dedicated many years of service as a mechanic at McNeese State University, where he earned the respect of coworkers and friends through his hard work, exceptional skill, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Known to everyone simply as "Will," he had one of the biggest hearts and always had a smile on his face. He never met a stranger and would do anything he could to help someone in need. His kindness, generosity, quick smile, and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Even after retirement, Will continued doing what he loved most-working on cars. His garage was more than a workshop; it was a place where he shared his knowledge with his granddaughter and grandson, inspiring in them a love for cars and trucks. Some of their favorite memories were the countless fishing trips they shared together, and no visit was ever complete without Paw's homemade fries waiting for them. He was the best "Paw".

When he wasn't under the hood of a vehicle, Will could often be found cooking for family and friends, or simply enjoying time with the people he loved.

Will leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Pauline Chavanne; his son, Brandon Chavanne and wife, Jessica; his cherished grandchildren, Drake and Harper Chavanne; his father, Raymond Chavanne; his siblings, John Chavanne, Robert Chavanne, Doug Chavanne (Jamie), and Catherine Vezinat; his aunt and uncle, Dave and Sharon "Cookie" Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whom he loved deeply.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Billie Mary Dittmann Chavanne, his paternal grandparents John(Genevieve) Chavanne and his maternal grandparents William(Mae) Dittman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Lake Street. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a service following from 11:00a.m. until 12:00pm.
