William Edgar Day, 88, passed away at his residence on December 15, 2017, surrounded by his children.
He was born in Lake Charles, LA to Arthur and Helen Owens Day on August 2, 1929. His parents owned Day’s Café where he grew up around the restaurant business. He continued critiquing food after his retirement by enjoying lunch every Friday with his Pawn Shop Posse. He served his country honorably in the US Navy and worked for 37 years at Cities Service refinery before serving at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for 26 years and retiring. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of laughter, music, and reading. He also loved Trinity Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Bill Day (Becky), Beckie Price, Laura Thompson (Matt), Bob Day (Melissa), and Carol Day; 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; siblings, Bo Rentrop, Wayne Day, and Jane Piraro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Anne Day; and sister, Glenda Pelletier.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday December 19, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve James will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4 PM until 8 PM and will resume on Tuesday from 8 AM until 10 AM.
