Obituary

William Michael “Mike” Goodknight, 83, of Lake Charles, passed away at 9:55 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Goodknight was born on February 18, 1943, in Jacksonville, Florida. He proudly served in the United States Army, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his commitment to public service as a Department of the Army Civilian. After 32 years of dedicated service, he retired as the Director of Logistics at Fort Polk.

Twenty-two years ago, Mr. Goodknight made Merryville, Louisiana, his home before recently relocating to Lake Charles. He was a faithful member of Boxwood Church of Christ in Merryville and was also a proud member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, where he shared a lasting bond with fellow veterans.

He found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether traveling in his RV, relaxing at the beach, or exploring the open road on his motorcycle, Mr. Goodknight embraced adventure and treasured the freedom to travel.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 26 years, Bobbie Goodknight; daughter, Katina Barrera; sons, Michael Goodknight (Kristi) and Chad Eaves (Kellie); grandchildren, Ashlyn Courville (Michael), Selena, Sarah, Kinsley, Mark and Jeremiah Goodknight; and great-grandchildren, Kendal and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nell Goodknight, and brothers, James “Jack” Goodknight, Jr. and Glenn Goodknight.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Boxwood Church of Christ, 123 Boxwood Church Rd., Merryville, LA 70653. Brother Earl Franks will officiate, with Joey Franks as the song director. Pallbearers include Michael Goodknight, Kevin Franks, Michael Courville, Wesley Jeans, Jeremiah Goodknight, Mark Goodknight, and honorary pallbearer Chad Eaves. Burial will follow in Bivens Cemetery next to the church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM and continue at the church until the start of the service.
