William Howard Cooper

William Howard Cooper, 79, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:20 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in his residence.

 

Mr. Cooper was born on May 6, 1938 in Charlotte, NC where he sang in the Charlotte Boys Choir. He proudly served in the US Air Force before moving to the Lake Charles area more than 50 years ago. Mr. Cooper was a certified welding mechanic and retired from Alcoa Carbon Plant at the age of 62. He was a member of the Apostolic Temple Pentecostal Church.

 

He enjoyed motorcycles, race cars, and model airplanes and was a diehard LSU fan.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 39 years, Carol Evelyn Cooper of Lake Charles; daughter, Donna Dukes (Scott) of Bellville, TX; son, Gary Cooper of Lake Charles; two step daughters, Vivian Grigsby (Richard) of Baytown, TX and Tammy Stephens (James) of Lake Charles; step son, Ellis Settlemyer, III (Shonna) of Lake Charles; sister, Lisa Alexander of Davidson, NC; brother, Kenny Greene of Charlotte, NC; fifteen grandchildren; and countless great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Cooper and Nel Cooper Hodges; daughter, Cheryl Cooper Thompson; two sons, Jackie Glenn Cooper and Shaun Zachary Cooper; and one grandchild.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ricky Treece will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
