William Barr Pharr, Jr. died on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the usual peaceful family chaos that he knew and loved so well.

He was born on October 30, 1931, in Orlando, Florida, to Louise Dickinson Pharr and William Barr Pharr, Sr. He grew up in Orlando, which he remembered as a boy's paradise of lakes, fishing, and endless outdoor adventures, and he graduated from the University of Florida in 1954. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot and intelligence officer. While stationed at Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he met Yvonne Vidrine, who would become his wife of 59 years.

After completing his military service, Bill and Yvonne chose to remain in Lake Charles, where they raised their four children and built a warm, lively family life that grew to include eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Over the years, Bill also formed many enduring friendships. He treasured the company, loyalty, conversation, and good humor of the friends who shared so much of his life.

Professionally, Bill worked in the insurance industry as a respected agent and agency owner. He also gave generously of his time to the Lake Charles community, serving in several capacities, including as president of the Lake Charles Racquet Club, and as a member of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board. He approached both work and recreation with discipline and a strong competitive spirit. A gifted athlete, he played competitive handball and tennis for many years and was a familiar participant in local tournaments. He was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral community, frequently serving as a lector and Catholic Radio commentator.

Bill will be remembered for a life shaped by service, loyalty, determination, and an abiding commitment to his family, friends, and community. He was proud of the life he and Yvonne made in Lake Charles, and his influence will continue through the generations who loved him.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne, and his parents.

He is survived by his four children, Katie Rafferty and her husband, Shaun; Lucy Simone and her husband, Dan; Jenny Chunn and her husband, Keith; and Billy Pharr. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Pharr and Dana Pharr.

He leaves eleven grandchildren: Barkley Rafferty and her husband, Christopher Tidmore; Daniel Simone; Nigel Rafferty; Jack Simone and his wife, Eleanore; Patrick Rafferty and his wife, Sophie Oreck; Quinn Pharr; Drew Pharr and his wife, Quinn; Andrew Chunn; Kate Simone; Caroline Chunn Cutrera and her husband, Connor; and Spencer Chunn.
