William Tonopha Thompson

June 15, 1945 — September 29, 2020

William Tonopha Thompson, 75, of Westlake passed away at 9:42 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 in a local hospital.

Mr. Thompson was born on June 15, 1945 in Dry Creek, LA where he lived until moving to Westlake in 1973.  He was a hardworking man that was sure his family was taken care of and was dedicated to his job as a carpenter.  Mr. Thompson was a member of the Carpenter’s Local #953.

He will be remembered for his willingness to give the shirt off his back if someone was in need.  Mr. Thompson was also known for his courageous spirit and strong will, having been a brain tumor survivor before the young age of 40.  If his television was turned on, you can bet it was on a game show of some kind.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devote wife of 50 years, Suzanne Thompson of Westlake; two daughters, Valerie Benoit of Westlake and Vicki Holland of Lake Charles; sister, Elsie Cates of Longville; grandchildren, Curry Benoit, Haley Manuel, Garret Benoit, Cody Herford, Shane Benoit, and Sarah Derise; and great grandsons, Grayson and Dawson Manuel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and William Thompson; siblings, Charles Thompson, Pat Woolford, and Lois Darbonne; and a grandson, Ronnie Manuel.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Lewis Cemetery in Deridder where his family is buried.  Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
