Willie Charles Gros Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on November 18, 1942, in Tampa, Florida, Willie would eventually call Lake Charles, Louisiana, his home. He led a life marked by dedication to family, country, and community that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Sulphur High School, Willie was active in school life as a manager for the Sulphur High Football Team. His spirit of service shined through when he helped search and rescue efforts following Hurricane Audrey, showcasing his unwavering commitment to those in need.

At just 18, Willie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1961 to 1969. He was thankful for the opportunity to serve his country, participating in two tours in Vietnam between 1964-1965 and 1968-1969. Following his active duty, he continued his service with the Louisiana National Guard from 1980 until 2002, ultimately retiring as Command Sergeant Major, the highest rank achievable for a non-commissioned officer.

A talented instrument technician, Willie spent 25 years at the Citgo refinery, where his expertise and work ethic were well appreciated. Outside of work, he immersed himself in politics and veteran associations, always volunteering his time for activities that uplifted fellow veterans. Willie was a member of the inaugural volunteer fire fighter team in Carlyss, Louisiana, which spoke to his heart for service and community.

His love for baseball was matched by his passion for coaching young players, mentoring them and sharing the joy of the game. In his leisure, he was an avid NASCAR fan, often cheering for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr. Willie was also known for his unforgettable sense of humor; he had the rare gift of making everyone feel special and bringing laughter to any situation.

Willie's family meant the world to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Kyle Gros, his daughter Glendalyn Lee Gros Richard, his son Willie "Chuck" C. Gros Jr., and his brother Richard O. Gros. The family cherishes the time spent with Willie's two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as his stepchildren and their growing families-three stepchildren, seven step grandchildren, and a step great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Butsie Gros, his mother, Ola Doris Johnson Gros Callahan, stepfather Johnny L. Callahan, and brother Kenneth J. Gros.
