Willie Seal Slaven

October 31, 1931 — January 30, 2019

Mrs. Willie Seal Slaven, 87, of Sulphur, LA went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

Mrs. Slaven was born, raised and educated in Franklinton, LA. She was a graduate of Franklinton High School and continued vocational studies. She met and married her husband and began her life as a career Military wife. She loved to cook. Mrs. Slaven was a member of her church choir, taught Sunday school, loved to study the Bible and loved to witness. Her favorite times were spent taking care of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and as a faithful servant.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Joan Kershaw and husband Murphy of Iowa; two sons, Gary Slaven and wife Julie of Carlyss, and Darryle Slaven and wife Oline of Huntsville, TX; grandchildren, Kyle Slaven, Craig Slaven, Carly Touchette, Brenda Findley-Howe, Stephanie Reed, Bryan Findley, Roy Slaven, John Slaven, Joe Slaven, Megan Pickens, Colson Slaven, Cherri Trahan, and Gena Kershaw; thirteen great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; one brother, Kirby Seal and wife Dot of NC; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Melvin Slaven; son Mark Slaven; parents, Wilton and Beatrice Seal; four sisters, LaVergne Varnado, Letha Allen, Wilkie Creel, and Cloice Bankston; and two brothers, Rev. Carl Seal and John Seal.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at East Ridge Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Alan Weishampel and Reverend Larry Staggs will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation on Saturday will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation on Sunday will be from 1:00 until the time of service in the church.

The family of Mrs. Slaven wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gary Kohler, his nurse Peggy, staff of Stonebridge Place and nurses of Heart of Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion during this difficult time.
