Willie Mae Thompson, 92, of Lake Charles, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in a local care facility.
Mae was born on a houseboat in Jonesville, LA to William “Bill” Owen Spann and Maudie Jolly Spann on May 10, 1931.
She moved to Lake Charles in the early fifties and worked as a school cafeteria worker for many years. She was a kind, hard working person who liked to fish, sew, read westerns and play bingo. She was a wonderful cook and will be remembered for her cornbread dressing, shrimp gumbo, cabbage rolls and lemon pie.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Henry Spann, Herbert Spann, Eddie Spann, Tommie Edwards, Raymond Edwards, Faye Edwards, and Ronald Edwards.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, John Breaux and Bolden Thompson.
She is also preceded in death by her sons, Jerry Wiley and Fred Wiley and granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Wiley.
Mae is survived by her son, Virgil Breaux (Renee), and daughter, Doris Gail Breaux Rogers (Vince); numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
