Winnie Elizabeth Williams

December 8, 1921 — May 3, 2018

Winnie Elizabeth Williams, 96, of Lake Charles passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in her residence surrounded by her daughter and friends.

 

Mrs. Williams lived in Sulphur most of her life before moving to Lake Charles 5 years ago to be with her daughter. She worked as office manager for Dr. Sallye Jean Toniette in Sulphur for 25 years. Mrs. Williams was a member of Sulphur First Baptist Church where she sang in the Aging Cajun Choir.

 

She is described as the “best mother a child could have” by her daughter who is also her best friend. Mrs. Williams was loved by all who were blessed to know her.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter and best friend, Rita Williams Ellender of Lake Charles; daughter in law, Cissy Williams of Fort Meyers, FL; six grandchildren, Scott Ellender (Elizabeth) of Rapid City, SD, Trena Guglielmo (Justin) of Lake Charles, Wendi Williams of Dallas, TX, Lamar Williams of Santa Bella Island, FL, Erin Williams, and Austin Williams of Fort Meyers, FL; thirteen great grandchildren, Stoffel, Hannah, and Beck Strange, Taylor and Annabelle Williams, Madeline, Laura, and Penelope Baute, Savannah, Ethan, and Shea Ellender, and Jolié and Hudson Hardie.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Williams; son, Norman Williams; brother, Orville Hammons; a grandson, Jeremy Williams; and parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.O. Hammons.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 7, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

 

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Williams care givers, Jennifer Ballard, Nedra Bohannon, Gwen Robinson, Jeanette Hydle, Linda Christian, and Amanda Gremillion as well as the staff at Hospice of Lake Charles for the care they gave to her.
