Winslow Wayne Smith, 87, of Sulphur passed away on October 31, 2016 at Grand Cove nursing home. Winslow lived in Maplewood since the early 1940’s. He retired from Cities Service Oil Refinery after working 37 years. Winslow served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Louisiana Sheriff Honorary Membership program, Nagoya/Komaki Air Force Base Reunion Association and a member of Maplewood United Methodist Church. Winslow loved to watch his grandchildren play soccer. Winslow was a graduate of Sulphur High School and attended McNeese.
Winslow is survived by his two daughters, Victoria “Vicki” Smith Holder and husband Steve and Melissa Smith Tarasiewicz; grandchildren, Jason Wayne Holder and fiance’ Kara, Ashleigh Holder Fontenot and husband Wade, John Joseph Tarasiewicz, III and wife Haley and Lauren Tarasiewicz; 1 great grandchild, Chloe Schexnider and one on the way; brother in law and sister in law, John and Alice Whiting; brother in law, Eddie Sonnier; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne Whiting Smith; his parents, G.W. and Lillian Freeny Smith; infant daughter, Cassandra Smith; one sister, Sally Smith Sonnier; one sister in law, Rebecca Lee Whiting; and one son in law, John Joseph “Joey” Tarasiewicz, Jr.
Services for Winslow will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 10 AM at Maplewood United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger Templeton officiating. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the church.
