Zelma Marie Landry Lopez, 84, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 3:30 AM on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in a local hospital. Mrs. Lopez was born April 22, 1930 in Jennings, LA and has lived in Lake Charles since 1947. She worked at TG&Y for fifteen years in the Fabric Department. She later worked at University United Methodist Church in the Mother's Morning Out for thirteen years. She was a member of the AARP, RSVP, the Cajun Music Association, the Senior Circle and a member of the Cooties Pup Tent #13. Mrs. Lopez also liked to volunteer her time at the VA Hospitals and as a Pink Lady at St. Patrick Hospital. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of American Court #1785. Mrs. Lopez was a lifetime member the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #2130 and a member of the American Legion Post #1. She loved to travel and had been to every state and all over the world. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and cooking. Mrs. Lopez is survived by her son, Karl Lopez and wife Janice of Lafayette, LA; daughter, Theresa Foreman and husband Richard of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, Adam Duplechin, Jr. and Edward Ray Duplechin, both of Jennings; six grandchildren, Carl Foreman, Elson Louis Foreman, Kristen Johnson, Kyle Lopez, Kasey Lopez, Kayley Lopez; great-grandchildren, Ian, Robert, and Emma Foreman, Hunter and Bryce Johnson, Elson Louis Foreman, II, and Kullen Lopez; and her good friend and travel companion, Lillie Breaux. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Elson Lopez; and brother, Freddie Landry, Jr. of Jennings. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Charles McMillin will officiate. Burial will follow in Bertrand Cemetery in Hathaway, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her brothers.
