Robert Gary

October 9, 1938 ~ November 11, 2023

Robert Gary, 85 of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

He graduated from Hathaway High School and at the age of seventeen he enlisted into the Army National Guard.

It was a visit to his cousin that led him to meet his future wife, Bonnie. After two years of dating they exchanged vows on November 15, 1958.

Together they welcomed four children. During the years his children rodeoed he provided for his family as an equine farrier, a craft he loved dearly for over thirty years. Later in life he established Bob Gary’s Dirt Work.

He was a family man, and was overjoyed when his grandchildren came along, he worked with them to show their goats, and when the great grandchildren came along, he sat back and enjoyed the wonderful life and memories his family provided him. Upon retirement he enjoyed making sausage and jerky to share the love with his family.

He and Bonnie were parishioners of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church often volunteering their time to help in administrative office.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Gary; his parents; and two brothers, Jesse Gary and Tom Gary.

Those left to cherish his memory; his wife of sixty-five years, Bonnie J. Gary; children, Mark (Donna) Gary, Susan Courville, Linda (Rahn) Drost; a daughter in-law, Beverly Gary; grandchildren, Justin, Cody, Amber, Andrew, Elizabeth, Brandi, Blake, and Brooke; great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Wyatt, Dylan, Dawson, Raylan, Adeline, Zoey, and Foster; and a sister, Wavell Marcsisak.

He will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
