Carolyn Eason

May 28, 1927 ~ September 9, 2020

Carolyn May Bosworth Eason, 93, passed away on Sept. 9, 2020, in her granddaughter’s home in Prairieville, La., where she was evacuated from Hurricane Laura. After she endured five months of COVID isolation in her assisted living facility, the evacuation freed Carolyn to spend her last two weeks lovingly surrounded by her family.

Born on May 28, 1927, in Dallas, Texas, to Robert and Stella Fabacher Bosworth, Carolyn was the fifth of six children. She grew up in New Orleans, where she graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School and later worked as a secretary. In 1948, she married Calvin Eason, a young attorney. The couple moved in 1954 to Lake Charles, where they raised their children.

Carolyn worked as a legal secretary in Calvin’s law office until 1966, when she began a 31-year administrative career with the Louisiana Department of Health, working at the Calcasieu Parish Health Unit and Moss Regional Hospital until she retired in 1997.

Carolyn’s family and her Catholic faith were the loves of her life. She was a regular fixture at Mass at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, St. Martin de Porres and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic churches. She loved to share her faith—both with her family and as a catechist for the OLQH religious education program. At Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Carolyn was a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector and a member of Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Serra Club, a devotee of the rosary and a faithful viewer of EWTN Catholic TV network.

Carolyn often said that her proudest accomplishment was her four children; she made sure that all of them earned college degrees and grew up to be “good people.” Her pride in them was multiplied in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent countless nights caring for her grandchildren, even “moving in”when their parents were out of town. Carolyn was an avid swimmer,a big fan of McNeese football and a serious card player. She enjoyed all types of desserts and sweets—especially licorice candy—and loved to make her own “lemonade” at restaurants. (She would order “lots of lemons” with her water!)

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Calvin Eason; her parents; and four siblingsStella, Robert Jr., Miriam and Marie. She is survived by her brother, Alvin Bosworth of Austin, Texas; by four childrenDan Eason (Beth), Mary Ellen O’Carroll (Peter), Michael Eason (Mary Kaye) and Pat Eason (Roxane), all of Lake Charles; by 11 grandchildren; by 21 great-grandchildren; and by many friends.

Services will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Martin de PorresCatholic Church, with visitation at 12:30 p.m., a rosary at 1:00 p.m. and a funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m., Msgr. Jace Eskind officiating. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Our Lady Queen of Heaven School or St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
