Gwen Brignac

May 17, 1955 ~ September 9, 2020

Gwendolyn Sue Frazier Brignac, 65, of Lake Charles passed away, Wednesday September 09, 2020 in a Baton Rouge hospital.

Mrs. Brignac was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.  She was a graduate of Barbe High School and McNeese State University where she attained a degree in Education following the loss of her husband.  She began her career as a teacher at St. Margaret Catholic School, where she made an impressionable difference in the lives of countless children and staff for twenty-five years.  Teaching was her second love and her students and staff were her family, near and dear to her heart in her second home.

Gwen was joyful and positive with a friendly smile. She had a servant’s heart, welcoming spirit and brightened the day of those she encountered daily.  Making memories with her grandchildren was her absolute favorite thing to do. Holiday celebrations, picnics, card games, crafts, movie nights, dance parties and cooking lessons to name a few, taking an ordinary moment and make it extra special for them.

Gwen was an admirable woman whose life is a true testimony of who God creates us to be.  She embraced and encouraged family unity, loved planning family meals (Sunday dinners, and holidays being her favorite), above all else, she instilled the life of the love of faith in prayer in the hearts of those she loved.  She will be most remembered as the “rock” of her family and as the one person who made countless many feel special.

She leaves to carry on her legacy, two daughters, Emily Brignac Alcock (Darren) and Sarah Brignac, both of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Landon Brignac, Abigail Alcock, Anna Alcock and Ava Alcock; siblings, Marcia Brassieur (Jay) of Santa Fe, TX, Warren Frazier of Lake Charles and Trent Frazier (Angie) of Lake Charles; many nieces, nephews and a number of close friends that were like family.

Her husband Joseph Bird Brignac left her a widow thirty years ago.  She was also preceded in death by her parents Gray Warren and Mary Hutsell Frazier.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Monday, September 14, 2020 at St. Margaret Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Samuel Orsot will officiate.  Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.  Visitation Sunday will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 5:00 PM in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.

The daughters of Mrs. Brignac would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the multitude of students, family and friends who have reached out to them. Your kindness speaks volumes to how blessed they are to have her as their mother.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret Catholic School, 2500 Enterprise Blvd, Lake Charles, LA 70601.
